PETRA HEALTH Solutions has been contracted by Kumba Iron Ore to manage the COVID-19 vaccination rollout in 4 of it’s sites in the Northern Cape, Western Cape and the Gauteng provinces. PHS is responsible for ensuring site readiness and preparation, compliance to government legislation and procedures and facilitating the registration processes, coordinating with all Kumba business units to ensure all supply chain, IT and finance mechanisms required to support the rollout process are in place. PHS is also conducting an evaluation of Kumba’s post incident medical care (PMIC) program, as well as a full review of the wellness program to assist the team to optimize the healthcare program for delivery of high quality services to its employees and contractors.
PHS was contracted by SADC (Southern African Development Community) in Gaborone Botswana, under the SADC cross border initiative to conduct a review of the access and utilization of health facilities and HIV services for mobile populations in the SADC region.
The review was conducted in the 12 SADC inland countries including South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The target group: The target group included mobile populations such as truck drivers; taxi drivers; migrant sex workers; migrant clients of sex workers; seafarers; fishermen, migrant farm workers and others. PHS conducted an extensive literature review, key informant interviews with high ranking government officials and civil society groups and compiled and presented the report to the SADC Secretariat.
Together with Pure Health Consulting, PHS provided technical expertize towards the development of the Integrated HIV/AIDS and TB policy for the mining sector in South Africa. The services provided by PHS included conducting a background research on policy instruments for TB/HIV in the mining sector in Southern Africa, conducting stakeholder engagements and site visits in mines across South Africa, facilitating a national level mining sector workshop and making inputs into the drafting of the policy.
We provided technical assistance to the department of health and the department of correctional services on the pharmaceutical management of TB drugs in correctional centers (prisons) in all nine provinces of South Africa. PHS contributed towards the development of assessment tools, assessing the drug ordering and distribution systems, drug storage and stock management, HIV and TB treatment and care, goodpharmacy practices, record keeping and monitoring system as well as follow upcare and support provided to inmates in correctional centers. We were also responsible for writing assessmentreports, providing feedback to senior government officials to disseminate findingsand to make recommendations on areas of improvement.
